Hydro Jetting: Your Tough Clogged Pipe Answer

The plumbing system in any building is meant to sweep wastewater from the drains to the municipal sewer system lines or a septic system. When a clogged pipe occurs, they cause problems with the way the lines function and will eventually lead to a backflow of waste inside your home.

Do you have a chronic, serious clog in your plumbing?  The Savannah plumbing professionals, Thompson and Thompson Services can easily take care of stubborn clogs and keep things flowing smoothly. How do you know when you need to give your plumbing the hydro jetting treatment?

  • You smell sewer odors coming up through drains
  • Recurring clogs that chemicals and “plumbing snakes” don’t touch
  • Water backs up in your basement
  • Wastewater or sewage (yuck!) is in the tub
  • Toilets just won’t flush all the way, or back up all the time

Know when to call for a clogged pipe, so the issue doesn’t get worse and cause greater stress on the plumbing system leading to leaks or flooding. Knowing the warning signs of clogged pipes will help homeowners to know when they need to call a professional plumber for line cleaning services and maintenance.

What Is Hydro Jetting?

Hydro jetting is a service Thompson and Thompson offers that will conquer the nastiest of clogs. Many times we find that tree roots have infiltrated the sewer lines and hydro-jetting can deal with even that tough nightmare. In commercial applications, grease is often the culprit, but grease is no match for the hydro jet procedure. The Hydro Jetting method uses jets of high-powered water to quickly and effectively remove greasy clogs and buildup, so the line is not just unclogged, but clean and clear. Hydro jetting uses a water pressure of around 35,000 psi or greater. That’s higher than the critical pressure level of water for thermodynamics and slightly lower than the record diesel engine common rail fuel system pressure (WOW!).  When this high level of pressure is combined with the heat of the water, a clogged pipe is no match.

How Is Hydro Jetting Different From Snaking?

Snaking and hydro-jetting are both meant to remove clogs, but hydro jetting is much more powerful and it has the ability to clear the greasy buildup that naturally occurs in the pipes that can eventually cause reclogging in little to no time. That means you’ll be calling a plumber, again and again, Hydro Jetting will stop that.

While snaking is effective in punching a hole in a clog, it does not clean the walls of the pipes because it is limited by the auger head. Snaking cannot offer the full cleaning hydro jetting can, but it’s great for smaller clogs closer to the drain or when pipes of the home are older and could become damaged by the high impact of water pressure used during hydro jetting.

Is this a job for DIY Man?

When a clog occurs in the pipes of a home, some homeowners attempt to take a Do-It-Yourself approach and go to work on their drains with chemicals, a plunger or a hardware store snake. Sometimes these tools work just fine on minor blockages, but if the clog recurs or just won’t respond, you may end up making the clog worse or damaging the pipes.

Chemical treatments rarely are effective and they can cause etching inside the pipes, leading to weakening and a greater risk of damage. No one wants compromised pipes!

Don’t let clogged pipes get you twisted.
